Coming Soon... 10/30 Hour Training Packages
We have begun production on a new group of programs introducing employees to OSHA, discussing how the agency operates and its areas of focus. These programs are based on the two-hour Introduction to OSHA course we have submitted to the OSHA 10 and 30 Hour Online Outreach Training competition. We are producing both general and construction versions of these packages, and they will be available in English and Spanish. Watch for more information on these exciting new programs.
HAZCOM Standard Changes Expected
OSHA has proposed changing the current Hazard Communication requirements to conform to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of chemicals (GHS). Under the new rule, due to be finalized shortly, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) will be called Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and will follow a slightly different format. A significant change to the current rule is that container labels will be required to contain pictograms and signal words. The new rule will also contain different chemical classifications, such as “compressed gas” and “flammable liquid”.
Once the final rule is published it is expected that employers will have a phase-in period of up to two years to comply. As always, you can count on MARCOM to review and update our current programs to reflect these revisions to the standard.
New Compliance Directive on PPE
OSHA has released a new compliance directive with tougher inspection and enforcement guidance for Personal Protective Equipment. The new directive includes:
- Clarification of who is responsible (the employer or employee) for providing and paying for various types of personal protective equipment.
- Enforcement policies that reflect court and Review Commission decisions concerning PPE.
- Information that will be useful to employers in selecting the appropriate PPE, depending on the particular workplace hazards their employees face…including the requirement on the selection of safety shoes and criteria for compliance with specific ANSI standards.
OSHA doesn’t release new enforcement guidance all that often, so you can be sure that OSHA inspectors across the country will be focusing on PPE use during their next inspections. You will want to ensure your company is in compliance and that your employees are being properly protected. Our Personal Protective Equipment safety program provides thorough training about this and other important PPE issues.

Our Safety Showers and Eye Washes training program has been totally refurbished. The program reminds employees of how important this equipment is when working with or around hazardous chemicals, looks at the types of showers and eye washes typically found in facilities today, and reviews how to operate them.
Formats available: DVD, VHS, CD-ROM; SCORM; Online
Language available: English and Spanish
Production Date: 2011
Run Time: 9 minutes

Updated Crane Safety and Rigging Safety Available!
All formats and languages of these topics are now available. This includes both English and Spanish versions of the DVD/VHS programs, as well as English and Spanish versions of the interactive CD-ROM and SCORM online course... for general industry and construction environments.
OSHA has updated its decades old standard with new rules addressing the use of cranes and derricks in construction. Approximately 267,000 construction companies, crane rental businesses and crane certification organizations will be affected by the new rule, along with 4.8 million workers.
The new rule, which took effect November 8, 2010, is designed to prevent crane-related fatalities, including electrocution, crushed-by/struck-by incidents during assembly/disassembly, collapses, and "overturns". It also establishes requirements for ground conditions and crane operator certification, as well as the movement, set-up and use of cranes around power lines.
As a result, MARCOM has updated our Crane Safety and Rigging Safety courses (both industrial and construction versions) to incorporate information from the revised regulation. Areas covered include:
- Ground conditions
- Assembly & disassembly
- Work around power lines
- Operator certification
- Qualifications for signal persons and maintenance personnel
- Training and inspections
The updated interactive CD-ROM and SCORM online courses are now available. (The updated English and Spanish DVD/VHS programs have been shipping since the October 2010.)
